The Foley Chair

This elegant chair was made by Oregon bentwood artist, Steven Foley. Foley’s furniture building career spanned several decades and testament to his talent, his work can be found in the National Collection of Fine Art at the Smithsonian.

For this chair, as with many of his pieces, Foley hand selected the native oak from his local mill, purchasing wood that was still green and relatively malleable. The individual pieces were softened in a steam chamber, bent into shape, and clamped until dry. The bent components were then assembled and the wood finish was sanded and polished.

We came across this museum quality chair at Foley’s retirement sale; it’s a unique piece of Oregon craft history and has been built to be passed on for generations.
